The S2 has own very idiosyncratic upper range with own helpful resonances injected into sound. I feel that that original metal suspension diaphragm does it bolder and more aggressively then the plastic suspension dia...
Moreover, the driver has such a huge amount of the “beneficial resonance” and such a tremendous transient ability that it scare, and my system has a dificult time to handle it.
Referring to my privios post I'm wond...

Roman,I don't think I've ever read your explanation why not 2482? We are all on a holy grail path to find a (somehow) available good compression driver that can go down to almost 200hz in domestic conditions and there are not many better candidates. ...

That is the thing exactly, my upperbass solution has the same output amplitude as the compression drivers I am using, IMHO resistrors are the devil in xovers, they kill all sound. Now the difference between 109 db and 110 db can be overcome with c...

My humble guess is that the titanium diaphragm won't ever give you the feeling you seek.JBL 2482 with its phenolic diaphragm may not be the quickest or most detailed, but has a truly wonderful tone that I never tire of....

Any ideas about what sort of weight and/or strength/ and/or damping advantages over previous diaphragm materials we are talking about? Of course they would need larger diaphragms and significant audible results before I would agree that this mat...
I had a SG370 mid apart only yesterday.I should have taken a photograph. I have also seen the inside of the tweeter. They are very similar, so I have no reason to suppose the low mid SG 505 will be much different. I'll try...
There are some advantages in S3 design that feel might be beneficial for sub 1K use of S3 drivers. The S3 had more accurately made output channel. I think it shell more benefit FH but who knows… Also, and this is a very bi...

Whoever followed my bothersome experiments in search for a better diaphragm for Vitavox S2 driver knows that I lately spent quite a lot time trying to make the original metal suspension diaphragm to work. There are a LOT of advantages in those diaphr...

Hm, Yes, I kind of forgot the idea of multiple compression drivers blowing into the same throat. I never was too warm to it but I do admit that it would minimize the length of the horn. For sure the right solution would be to make compression driver ...
I am not using the S2 driver, I have been going the long way testing a bunch of different compression drivers. Right now I am testing the TAD 2001, I can say leaving it full range going all the way up, it develops a certain ...

Here is the list of the thing to do with Vitavox S2 in order to use it in 4-ways installations. The S2 must not be used in 2, 3 ways systems. It possible to do with S2 whatever you wish but pretty much any other way to utilize them produces some very...

The voices, the voices...Just a word of warning, if you do decide to give this a go, remove the diaphragm first and be sure to have exactly the right size screwdriver - that bolt is prone to flaking...Might I suggest that if Macondo has evolved to th...

If you know how in some optical systems imagery get destroyed when an aperture getting closed to F64 or even smaller, then you understand what happens in compression driver when frequency get higher and spaces smaller. Yes, the proximity of wavelengt...

Hm, I do not know men, but it des not work. Over the last few years I have tried the ordinal metal diaphragm 4 or 5 times and not with the Super Melquiades it is the most successful try but I still feel than it is not the sound that I would like to g...
Our bass driver has a 12v field coil motor, it developes just over 20 kilogauss flux density using a low carbon steel pole piece. The exit diameter is 4 inches at the moment. The diaphragm is 6 inches in diameter and made of a...

From Email that I got today:
“….. I see that you are considering trying the metal diaphragm again in your S2s. I am using the metal diaphram for the moment (it is all that i have), but have the terrible ringing problem, especially on female vocals. ...

Ronnie,
If you clean them yourself, here's a tip :
Buy or make a good non-magnetic flat-blade screwdriver (I made one from a solid stainless steel rod... use a "hollow grinding" technique and make sure the tip is a nice fit... not all "stainles...

Up to the first fold the horn is somewhat conical as seen in post #1 picture. This picture shows the exit w/ additional angle wall (making for "corner" loading). This has a greater (uncalculated) flare something like a compound CD horn.Resonant F unkno...

About the resonance. This was exactly why I asked. The electrostats drivers have very light diaphragm and through react of those diaphragm from a large horn will have much more critical effect then with a driver that would have heavier rand more rigi...
So, I guess you do not measure flux if are getting. You might measure sensitivity and we might presume what when perm magnets has the same sensitivity as electromagnets then the drivers have the same magnetic flux density. ...

After several tests of listening and somehow I felt that the best solution is fully closed. The heat is part of the project and not to damage the diaphragm, also the hot air is compressed better than cold and thus distorts less. Even leaving the cont...

Yes, I did asked myself this question at the begging. The S2 has own channel and here is nothing your can do about it. The profile of this channel is irrelevant as at very begging of the curve they all are very much alike. I would not think about it....

Twogoodears, MINGSU or whoever else why know, I have a question to ask As I understand GOTO use mostly titanium diaphragms but they calm them by plastic surround. This FRP technology the used nowadays in all GOTO form from Fiberglass Reinforced Plas...

Kerry, thank you for sharing your paper diaphragm idea. Very interesting. As I remember it, the Cogent diaphragm I saw (and listened to) at Steve and Rich's place was a flat disc of something like fiberglass, and it looked relatively heavy for the ap...
However, do not use word “brake” as it if from the words of mass-centric drivers. Horns are not about mass and exertion but about velocity and consequential pressure, so in horns there are no brakes but rather damping over...
